The SDEN is a partnership between TDA and UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) which provides an open forum and support network for local companies that are aspiring to sell abroad. The forum provides presentations on potential export markets, real life case studies, and highlights the support that is available for those seeking to export.
Set up two years ago, the SDEN has so far helped over 100 businesses around South Devon. The Enterprising Britain Award recognises that the SDEN is a unique partnership which allows companies to share experiences and information and provide a support network for anyone looking to export for the first time or grow into new markets.
Steve Southcott, International Trade Adviser for UK Trade & Investment said:
“I am delighted that SDEN has been recognised for the vital role it plays in keeping our local business community informed and aware of the opportunities for exporting. Our meetings are completely free of charge to attend and intentionally held at the end of the business day, so as to minimise all possible commercial disruption. The format is informal, seminar style with a chance to question the presenters on their specialist subjects before networking afterwards with speakers and fellow delegates alike over light buffet refreshments. Any business that already exports, or that might just be thinking about exporting its goods or services is most welcome to come along and join us to listen, learn and share.”
Carl Wyard, TDA Economy and Enterprise Manager said:
“The TDA is very proud to play such a key role in supporting businesses across Torbay and South Devon. Recognition by the Department for Business Innovation and Skills for our efforts to support exporting is a huge accolade to the TDA and the partners with whom we work closely. Credit should also go to the businesses which regularly attend the SDEN and make it the success that it is.”
Alan Archer, Chair of the South Devon Export Network said:
“I wholly commend the SDEN and its partners in providing a great business support network. With the development of communication technology the world is becoming more accessible and people can trade anywhere in the world they select. It’s easier than ever for a business to become international, and that is what we are trying to encourage. This award is testament to everyone’s efforts and motivation in encouraging companies to look further afield and expand their customer base. I hope that this national recognition encourages more businesses to join the SDEN and help it to become even stronger in providing support to each other.”
The SDEN is still looking to increase its membership and help support even more businesses from across South Devon to start exporting. Any business in the South Devon area that is new to export or is considering embarking into export is welcome to attend, and the events are free of charge.
