London Borough of Hackney win ‘Encouraging Export’ award

Tue 19 November 2013

Business looks for leadership, support and partnership and commitment to help growth. Hackney demonstrated this commitment through Hackney House – 500 SqM of pop up business and cultural showcase space that ran from May – September in 2012 and will continue through business support and sponsorship in 2013 and beyond. We are attended South by South West Tech event in Austin Texas in March 2013 following our Business Friendship Agreement: which was signed in 2012. 25 of Hackney’s top businesses funded our Hackney House Austin pop up venue and feedback has been superb (see separate entry for more details) We are looking to sign further business friendship agreements this year starting with Barcelona.

Natalie Betts, Acting International Economic Development Program Manager, EGRSO, City of Austin

“Hackney House Austin was a wonderful manifestation of the Austin-Hackney Friendship City agreement signed in January 2012 and I am very grateful to the Hackney Council for making it happen. It was extremely valuable to have a space where US and UK companies could come together to learn about the official partnership that Hackney and Austin have formed, and to network and make connections. These transatlantic business-to-business relationships are the core strength of our Friendship City agreement. We hope to return the favor with an Austin delegation to Hackney soon!”
